The announcement comes days after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macys.com\">Macy&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0revealed it would close stores in response to lackluster sales.<\/p>\n<p>Customers with layaway contracts at Kmart\u00a0have the option of paying off the contract early or transferring their layaways to a neighboring store or online.\u00a0Store staffers\u00a0will receive severance pay and\u00a0can\u00a0apply for positions at\u00a0surviving\u00a0Sears or Kmart stores.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attention Kmart shoppers: Dozens of stores are closing as the retailer in cutting its losses.
